Graze: Summer Berry Flapjack

The summer berry flapjack: rustic rolled oat flapjack with berry-infused cranberries.

I’m sorry, did I read that right? – berry-infused cranberries – What in the hell is a berry-infused cranberry? I asked around and got this gem-of-a-quote from co-worker and Grazee-pusher (how do you think I got my free box), Joel Ward:

It’s the turducken of berries

The turducken of berries. Turkey, Duck, and Chicken. In a berry. Oh, he apparently ment that, but with berries.

I did a little more digging on this and found the full list of ingredients on the Graze website: strawberry and raspberry infused dried cranberries.

I like the idea of an employee getting paid slightly more than minimum wage infusing the juices of strawberry and raspberry into a cranberry, one at a time, with a needle like BBQ pitmasters do with their brisket and pork. However, the ingredients also lists dried cranberries, and these are clearly chewy, not dried. We surmise that these were in fact rehydrated with the juices and oils of strawberries and raspberries. Makes more sense, not as exciting.

But how was it, you ask? This has a few more calroies than other snacks, as all of the flapjacks do.

Sidebar: in the UK, where Graze is from, a flapjack is not simply a pancake as we refer to stateside. A flapjack is in fact a sweet dense cake made from oats, golden syrup, and melted butter, served in rectanglesthe googs.

Sorry – how was it? This was delicious. “but you don’t like chewy fruit” – as proven yesterday, I don’t hate it. This flapjack was the perfect blend of chewy, and not too chewy. The fruit was flavorful but not overpowering. The “whole oats”, as it so proudly declares, had great flavors with just the right amount of sugar. The serving size was a bit bigger than it needed to be – you see two bars in the picture but it was, in fact, three bars when I opened the package. It was quite filling – I may not eat for another 3-5 minutes at this rate!

Would I pick this up in the store? Yes. Would I eat it if Graze sent it again? Hell yes!

I’d eat that, and then I’d totally eat it again for good measure.
